New students begin their UTSA journey at Convocation, Aug. 17
(Aug. 17, 2015) -- Convocation is the first step of their higher education journey for many new students. It is the opening paragraph of their UTSA story – a story that ends with commencement and the receipt of valuable degrees.
Today, UTSA holds its annual convocation at the Convocation Center on the Main Campus, welcoming more than 5,000 first-time freshmen and transfer students. The students will hear from UTSA President Ricardo Romo and other university leaders at the event. They’ll also be introduced to the university’s many traditions, such as the Roadrunner Creed, the UTSA Fight Song and Alma Mater.
Convocation is mandatory for all incoming freshmen. Due to the large number of students in the UTSA Colleges this year, there will be two ceremonies.
- 10–11 a.m. -- New students with last names beginning with A-L
- 1:30–2:30 p.m. -- New students with last names beginning with M-Z
- 11 a.m.–1 p.m. – University Luncheon on the Convocation Center East Lawn (Lunch ticket required)
UTSA PlayFair will take place opposite the convocation ceremonies at the UTSA Recreation and Wellness Center. UTSA students will alternate between the PlayFair and Fall Convocation:
- 10-11:30 a.m. -- New students with last names beginning with M-Z
- 1-2:30 p.m. – New students with last names beginning with A-L
PlayFair is a team-building experience designed to immerse students in UTSA’s vibrant student life. In these sessions, students learn about registered UTSA student organizations, play a variety of games and given the opportunity to forge new friendships with fellow students.
