UTSA photo of the day: Diving into mechanical engineering
(Aug. 5, 2015) — These kids are part of the UTSA Engineering High School Summer Camp at the College of Engineering. They might look like they’re playing, but they’re actually testing out this miniature car.
It’s called myDyno. Made by Swan Learning Labs, it’s a fully functioning dynamometer which allows students to perform automotive power experiments the same way automakers do, using the same software the car industry uses. The car was used during the weeklong summer camp to teach the students about the principles of mechanical engineering. The camp teaches incoming high school freshmen and sophomores to think out of the box and lets them dive into engineering design through problem-solving workshops, hands-on challenges and friendly competitions. That’s not a bad way to spend summer vacation.
