(Aug. 14, 2015) -- Drop by one of UTSA’s three on-campus residence halls this weekend and you’re likely to witness a milestone moment for many incoming residents: their first time living away from home.

Today, more than 4,300 students will begin moving their things into one of UTSA’s on-campus residence halls: Chaparral Village, Laurel Village, the Carlos and Malú Alvarez Hall, or the independently owned and managed Chisholm Hall and University Oaks. According to UTSA Housing and Residence Life, 72 percent of the students moving in this weekend will be first-time freshmen.

Hundreds of returning UTSA students and staff volunteers will be on hand to help residents unload the comforts of home into their new accommodations. UTSA Housing and Residence Life staff member will be wearing navy blue UTSA housing shirts so they can easily spotted by residents and families that need assistance.

Over the summer months, Housing and Residence Life has been hard at work readying the university’s three residence halls for the arrival of students. New and returning residents can expect new common area furniture and bedroom and kitchen flooring in Chaparral Village, and improved Wi-Fi service in all facilities.

UTSA’s many resident assistants (RAs) will be available to assist with move-in efforts. The RAs have also been preparing for the residents’ arrival all summer: training, getting accommodations and schedules in order, and decorating their halls and communities.

Students are encouraged to take photos of their move-in experience and share them online by tagging @UTSA on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and using #UTSA and #UTSARRDays.

Additionally, check out this UTSA Today article for some tips and guidelines to make this year’s move-in days as smooth as possible.

UTSA residence hall move-in is today and tomorrow, Aug. 14-15, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Move-in is the official kick off to UTSA Roadrunner Days, which runs through Aug. 22.

Students, their families and friends are encouraged to attend UTSA’s Welcome Back reception in Sombrilla Plaza later today on the Main Campus. The reception begins at 7:30 p.m. and will feature a performance by the UTSA Spirit of San Antonio Marching Band.
