TxDOT, San Antonio begin long-term project to improve UTSA Boulevard
(Aug. 18, 2015) – UTSA commuters who travel to and from campus on UTSA Boulevard will have to navigate around road closures and detours over the next two years, but there will be a big payoff for the inconvenience.
Dave Riker, UTSA associate vice president for facilities, said the two-part reconstruction project will make it much easier to travel on UTSA Boulevard, which will have four traffic lanes, a middle-turn lane, curbs, sidewalks and drainage.
"By the fall of 2017, it will be a fine road to travel on," Riker said.
The UTSA Boulevard project, which is being done by the City of San Antonio and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), has been divided into two segments: Babcock Road to Ximenes Avenue and Ximenes Avenue to Interstate 10.
Contractors for TxDOT recently began construction on the eastern segment. The city is currently bidding the western segment from Babcock to Ximenes Avenue, with construction slated to begin late this year.
The entire project is anticipated to be substantially complete by the fall of 2017.
