UTSA selected among Military Advanced Education & Transition’s top schools for military students
(Dec. 22, 2015) -- The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) has been designated a “Top School” by Military Advanced Education & Transition (MAET) for its military culture, financial aid and flexibility, and the general, on-campus and online support services it provides to the military community. The publication’s 2016 Guide to Colleges and Universities measures best practices in military and veteran education at universities and colleges across the nation.
The 2016 guide, published in the December issue of MAET and accessible in a searchable online database, provides information about military-supportive policies at more than 600 private, public, for-profit, not-for-profit, two-year and four-year educational institutions. It helps military-affiliated prospective students learn more about colleges and universities that follow best practices in military education to help them make informed choices about where to enroll.
UTSA’s military community makes up approximately 10 percent of the university’s total student population. It is comprised of military members, veterans, and their spouses and dependents. From 2009 to 2013, UTSA certified more individuals with Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits than any other public, four-year university in Texas, according to the Veterans Administration.
UTSA provides numerous services to help members of the military and veterans make a successful transition to higher education. These services include its Veterans Certification Office, its VetSuccess on Campus program -- which provides two full-time vocational counselors from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, its Veteran Services Advisory Committee and its Student Veterans Association.
MAET is the journal of higher education for service members and veterans making the transition from military to the civilian sector. Its selection of UTSA as a Top School for military students comes on the heels of the university’s designation as a Best for Vets institution for 2016 by the Military Times and as a Military Friendly School by Victory Media Inc. for the sixth consecutive year.
