UTSA students move into campus housing Aug. 19-20

More than 4,300 students, and their family members, will be on campus this weekend to celebrate a milestone

(Aug. 19, 2016) -- It's that time of the year — when thousands of Roadrunners descend upon the Main Campus to move into their new homes for the academic year. For many students, Residence Hall Move-In and Roadrunner Days mark two milestones: the students' first time living away from home and their first step in their higher education journey. Here's what they can expect during Move-In.

Beginning at 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 19 and Saturday, Aug. 20, more than 4,300 students will start moving their things into UTSA's on-campus residence halls. Approximately 72 percent of the students moving in this weekend will be freshmen.

UTSA manages three on-campus residence halls: Chaparral Village, Laurel Village and Carlos and Malú Alvarez Hall. Other nearby on-campus housing options include Chisholm Hall and University Oaks.

Over the summer, UTSA staff have been hard at work getting the university and its residence halls ready for Roadrunners to return. Residents can expect top-tier living facilities as well as fully trained staff and resident assistants ready to help make this semester a great one.

During move-in, hundreds of UTSA students and, staff and faculty volunteers will be on hand to help residents unload the comforts of home into their new accommodations. In addition, Housing and Residence Life will be using the Guidebook app to help residents navigate the Main Campus when they arrive on campus.

Students are encouraged to take photos of their move-in experience and share them online by tagging @UTSA on FacebookTwitter and Instagram and using #UTSA and #UTSARRDays

Additionally, residents can check out this UTSA Today article for some tips and guidelines to make this years' move-in as smooth as possible.

On Friday evening after move-in, students, their families and friends are encouraged to attend UTSA’s Welcome Back Reception at the University Center Paseo. The reception, sponsored by H-E-B and AT&T, begins at 7 p.m. and will feature a fun freebie giveaway by H-E-B. The event also includes a performance by the UTSA Spirit of San Antonio Marching Band.
