Panelists and public to discuss the debate over local control vs. legislative limits

(October 11, 2016) -- The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA), the San Antonio Express-News and Spectrum News will host a town hall meeting about property tax revenue caps at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 13 in the Buena Vista Street Building Theater (BVB 1.326) at the UTSA Downtown Campus. The event is free and open to the public.

The debate will center on whether lawmakers should place additional limits on the amount of new revenue local governments can take when property valuations increase. The issue is expected to be hotly contested during the 2017 Texas legislative session.

Four panelists will thoroughly examine the issue and answer questions from the audience during the 90 minute forum. They include State Senator Donna Campbell; James Quintero of the Texas Public Policy Foundation; County Judge Nelson Wolff and Live Oak Mayor Mary M. Dennis. Francine Romero, associate dean of the UTSA College of Public Policy, will moderate the discussion.

Free event parking will be available in unmarked spaces of lot D-3, beneath IH-35.

Seating is limited. Attendees should RSVP for the event. Doors close at 6:45 p.m.

The San Antonio Express-News also will collect questions from members of the audience before the event begins. To submit a question, arrive early to fill out a Q&A card provided by event hosts.
