Teaching and Outreach Activities

We are actively involved in the EXPANDING YOUR HORIZONS conference targeting girls in the 6th through 8th grades to increase their interest in pursuing STEM careers. For this purpose, we have annual teaching activities as well. Moreover, we are organizing and arranging teaching events in which research is demonstrated to high and middle school students in San Antonio area. In addition, we announce our research activities on twitter, facebook and blogspot, and we record short documentaries about the research and post these on youtube so that everyone interested in these topics can get first hand information. Furthermore, one of my main goals is to provide a 4 week intensive course that emphasizes inquiry based learning for middle school students. I hope to offer this four week course in the summers to interested middle school students in San Antonio area. The plan is to assign a teaching fellow (a middle-school instructor) to the instructor so that help is provided to better interface with middle school students and also to further train the middle school teachers. Parallel to the independent studies, colloquim, directed research, special projects, and master's and PhD thesis preparations, and our outreach activities... the following are the list of courses I have been teaching with joy since Fall, 2009 at UTSA.
