UTSA COS Summer Research Experience for 2013

In Summer 2013, UTSA will bring 10 students to its main campus for 10 weeks to work with science faculty on research projects in their laboratories. This summer program is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the UTSA College of Sciences (COS). This program will expose students to cutting edge resources, expertise, and training in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
Located in South Texas, the University of Texas at San Antonio is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge through research and discovery, teaching and learning, community engagement and public service. The UTSA College of Sciences is changing the future of science by exploring new frontiers in the fields of science and mathematics. One of the largest academic college at UTSA, the college serves more than 5000 students in 12 bachelor’s, nine master’s, and five doctoral degree programs in the departments of Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geological Sciences, Mathematics, and Physics and Astronomy.
Examples of research currently being conducted at UTSA include:
- Infectious Diseases, Immunology, Microbiology, Neurobiology, Stem Cells, Vaccine Development
- Biosensors, Green Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Molecule Synthesis
- Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Multimedia Datasets
- Ecology
- Nanoparticles
- Biomedical Engineering
Program Details
- Program starts June 3 and ends August 9
- Receive a $3000 stipend, housing, and a travel allowance
- Carry out research projects in the fields of Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geology, Mathematics, and Physics
- Participate in professional development training, including CV preparation, poster and oral presentations, and research-related skills
- Engage in student-student and student-faculty networking and mentoring activities

Eligibility / Selection
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident majoring in science or engineering
- Must be a full time undergraduate junior or senior student
- Students interested in attending graduate school at UTSA are particularly encouraged to apply
- Students from South Texas and from underrepresented groups/institutions are strongly encouraged to apply
