Priority Registration

All students who are officially registered with Student Disability Services are eligible to receive priority registration scheduling for the fall and spring semesters only. UTSA students who have priority registration, such as SDS students, are able to begin registering for academic classes the first day that registration opens for fall and spring semesters. (Note: this does not include first time freshman who MUST attend orientation prior to registering for any classes nor does it include student who have a hold on their record). This accommodation allows you the opportunity to select schedules that match your unique disability related needs.

When scheduling your courses, please consider the following guidelines:

  1. Meet with your Academic Advisor before the first day of registration so that you are ready to schedule classes as soon as you are eligible.

  2. Priority registration does not supersede any holds and/or prerequisite course requirements that have been placed on student registration. It is the student’s responsibility to resolve any issues and/or contact the appropriate department to address a hold.

  3. Research available course offerings online in advance; writing down your choices (and backup choices) in advance can make your registration session go very smoothly and quickly.

  4. Use your priority status to your advantage. Consider your disability-related needs and issues when scheduling and consider the following factors:

    • What time of day do the classes meet?

    • How often do classes meet?

    • Can you handle back-to-back classes or do you need breaks?

    • Is your course work balanced, so that you avoid an overload?

    • Is there a type of work that is affected by your disability?

    • If you have energy limitations or use Via Trans, are you able to get to your next class on time?
