Frequently Asked Questions

Alcohol Administration Experiment

Q: What are the requirements for being in an alcohol administration experiment?
A: The requirements vary by experiment, but generally the requirements include being a social drinker between ages 21 and 30.

Q: Does everybody get to drink alcohol in the experiment?
A: No. Unfortunately we won't know if you will drink alcohol until you arrive at the study because we assign you randomly to a drink condition.

Q: Do I have to be at least 21 years old to be in an alcohol administration experiment?
A: Yes.

Q: I lost my Driver's License or State ID, can I use a school ID/ birth certificate to verify my age?
A: No. We need to verify your age with a government-issued ID that has your picture on it along with your date of birth. Acceptable documents include a U.S. passport, a U.S. passport card, or a U.S. Military card.

Q: What do participants receive for participating?
A: This varies by experiment. In one of the experiments, participants receive $15.00 per hour for participating. Students may also receive credit towards UTSA's Introduction to Psychology research activity requirement instead of receiving money.
