Research Interests

Dr. Sooby Wood arc melting a U compound at Los Alamos National Laboratory

Our group excels in reaction kinetics investigations employing high temperature thermal analysis, namely thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis to 1600C. Additionally, a key focus in the laboratory is developing screening methods to assess a materials corrosion resistance in H2, O2, and H2O containing atmospheres. The laboratory also houses the capability to synthesize high melt point, high purity intermetallic compounds and alloys. The group’s research has been primarily focused on the synthesis and screening of accident tolerant nuclear fuel concepts. Novel materials relevant to the energy industry are of interest as well.
