To improve the overall quality of the fraternity and sorority experience at the University, the chapters developed a set of standards in January 1995 that was implemented in 1997. Over the years, these standards have been updated to reflect the changing Greek community.

The Greek Excellence program formally known as G.E.A.R. serves to assess chapters on the minimum standards they should be meeting to be viable and successful members the Greek community and of their (inter)national organizations.
