April 19–20: Document Shredding Days @ UTSA Downtown Campus

The UTSA Office of Environmental Health, Safety, and Risk Management together with our recycling partner Greenstar (Earth Day Celebration at UTSA) will host a paper recycling drop-off station from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., April 19 & 20 at the corner of Durango and Frio Buildings on the UTSA Downtown Campus. UTSA partner Greenstar Recycling is certified in secure document destruction through NAID (National Association for Information Destruction). The shredding station is a completely enclosed metal bin with small slits to accept your documents. When the day is complete, the entire bin will be picked up and removed to the Greenstar facility, where all contents will be shredded prior to being recycled. Our mission is to enhance waste reduction and improve service quality, especially during special events on the University campuses. We appreciate your help as we strive to reduce the environmental impact of waste and effectively manage the lifecycle of current and future resources.

Mini-bin Recycling Program

In 2011, the University of Texas at San Antonio successfully piloted this new waste minimization program at the North Paseo Building (NPB). The self-service mini-bin attaches to your personal recycling bin and takes the place of a full-sized trash can. When it becomes full, the user transfers its contents to one of the larger, housekeeper-serviced trash bins. This helps to raise awareness of our personal responsibility for waste generation. We expect to expand the placement of mini-bin waste receptacles to more locations on the west campus by February 2012. We want to thank to all NPB occupants for making the pilot program a success.
