College of Sciences Scholarships and Awards

Fall 2017 – Spring 2018:
Application window is December 1, 2016 to February 15, 2017

IMPORTANT

  • Applications MUST include all required documents at the time of submission. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
  • Before applying, review ALL criteria in the chart and descriptions below to ensure you qualify.
  • Eligibility criteria apply to the academic year in which the scholarship will be awarded.
  • Regarding academic classification: FR, SO, JR, SR, MS, PHD is based on the number of credit hours you will have COMPLETED by the beginning of Fall 2017.
  • If FAFSA is required, it has to be on file with UTSA by May 15, 2017. International students do NOT qualify for scholarships that require a FAFSA.

Arcie and Craig Jordan Endowed Undergraduate Scholarship in the Biological Sciences

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA

  • Undergraduate, enrolled full-time (12+ credit hours/semester)
    Exceptions for those who do not need to be full-time to graduate.
  • Major/Minor: Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Environmental Science
  • GPA: Cumulative 3.25+ (4.0 scale) in all science and mathematics courses
  • Is automatically renewable at the discretion of the Dean of the College of Sciences.

ADDITIONAL APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • 1-2 page pedagogical proposal co-authored by the faculty member, describing the revisions to take place for the course of interest and how the student will assist with the revisions.

The Bernard P. Sagik Memorial Scholarship

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA

  • Undergraduate, enrolled full-time (12+ credit hours/semester)
  • Completed 24+ semester credit hours at UTSA
  • Major: any major housed in the College of Sciences
  • GPA: 2.8+ (4.0 scale)
  • Preference given to applicants who are the first generation of their family to attend or graduate from college. Within this preference, academic merit and financial need may be considered.
  • Is automatically renewable for up to four years if all eligibility criteria are met.

ADDITIONAL APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Written statement describing your background and academic goals.

The Dr. B. Thyagarajan Endowed Scholarship

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA

  • Incoming Freshmen or Undergraduate, enrolled full-time (12+ credit hours/semester)
  • Incoming Freshmen: 860+ SAT or 18+ ACT, and Top 50% rank in graduating class
  • Undergraduate: cumulative 2.6+ GPA (4.0 scale) and completed 1-60 semester credit hours
  • Major: Chemistry, Geology, Physics
  • Must demonstrate financial need, as determined by the FAFSA on file with the UTSA Office of Student Financial Aid.

ADDITIONAL APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicants: You are encouraged to submit 1-2 Letters of Recommendation.
  • Recipients only: Required to write a two page essay on the life of United Farm Workers leader Cesar Chavez or India's freedom movement leader Mahatma Ghandi.

The Dr. Harold G. Longbotham Endowed Scholarship

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA

  • Undergraduate, enrolled full-time (12+ credit hours/semester)
    Graduate, enrolled full-time (9+ credit hours/semester)
  • Undergraduate: completed 60+ semester credit hours
  • Major: Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Engineering
  • GPA: cumulative 3.2+ for all applicants

The Emily Zachry Ansley Endowed Scholarship

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA

  • Undergraduate, enrolled full-time (12+ credit hours/semester)
  • Major: any major housed in the College of Sciences
  • GPA: cumulative 2.5+ (4.0 scale)
  • Must be a Texas resident and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  • Must demonstrate financial need, as determined by the FAFSA on file with the UTSA Office of Student Financial Aid.
  • Is automatically renewable if all eligibility criteria are met.

The Joseph J. Gdovin, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA

  • Undergraduate, enrolled full-time (12+ credit hours/semester)
  • Completed 30+ semester credit hours
  • Major: Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemistry
  • GPA: cumulative 2.8+ (4.0 scale)
  • Must demonstrate financial need, as determined by the FAFSA on file with the UTSA Office of Student Financial Aid.
  • Must demonstrate recognizable academic merit.
  • Is renewable on a semester by semester basis if all eligibility criteria are met.

ADDITIONAL APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Applicants: You are encouraged to submit 1-2 Letters of Recommendation.

The Juan and Epifania Martinez Memorial Endowed Scholarship

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA

  • Incoming Freshmen or Undergraduate, enrolled full-time (12+ credit hours/semester)
  • Major: any major housed in the College of Sciences
  • Must demonstrate financial need, as determined by the FAFSA on file with the UTSA Office of Student Financial Aid.
  • Must have graduated from the Harlandale Independent School District.

Kaplan Test Prep Award

Recipient receives free enrollment in a test preparation course (MCAT, DAT, PCAT, GRE, or LSAT).

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA

  • Undergraduate, enrolled full-time (12+ credit hours/semester)
    Exceptions for those who do not need to be full-time to graduate.
  • Completed 60+ semester credit hours
  • Major: any maajor housed in the College of Sciences
  • GPA: cumulative 3.4+ (4.0 scale)

The North Loop 410 Association, Inc. Endowed Scholarship

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA

  • Undergraduate, enrolled full-time (12+ credit hours/semester)
  • Completed 30+ semester credit hours
  • Major: any major housed in the College of Sciences
  • GPA: cumulative 3.2+ (4.0 scale)
  • Must be a Texas resident.

ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Two Letters of Recommendation completed by UTSA faculty members.
  • Written statement about your most distinctive honor (300 words or less).

Ruth and Dan Bates Scholarship

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA

  • Incoming Freshman or Undergraduate, enrolled full-time (12+ credit hours/semester)
    Graduate enrolled full-time (9+ credit hours/semester)
  • Major: any major housed in the College of Sciences
  • GPA: cumulative 3.0+ (4.0 scale)

The Sam Madrid, Jr. Endowed Scholarship in Science and Engineering

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA

  • Incoming Freshman or Undergraduate, enrolled full-time (12+ credit hours/semester)
  • Major: any major housed in the College of Sciences
  • GPA: cumulative 3.0+ (4.0 scale)
  • Must demonstrate financial need, as determined by the FAFSA on file with the UTSA Office of Student Financial Aid.
  • Must have graduated from a San Antonio area high school.

The USAA Foundation Scholarship

ELIGIBILTY CRITERIA

  • Incoming Freshman or Undergraduate, enrolled full-time (12+ credit hours semester)
    Graduate, enrolled full-time (9+ credit hours/semester)
    Exceptions for those who do not need to be full-time to graduate.
  • Incoming Freshman: 1090+ SAT or 24+ ACT
  • Major: any major housed in the College of Sciences
  • GPA: cumulative 3.0+ (4.0 scale) for all applicants
  • Must demonstrate financial need, as determined by the FAFSA on file with the UTSA Office of Student Financial Aid.
