On Friday, August 23rd the University Career Center and USAA hosted a Career Conference for seniors, graduate students and recent alumni. Over 120 attendees participated in the full day event which focused on job search, networking and professional development training.
After an opening welcome from UTSA University Career Center Director Audrey Magnuson, the keynote address was presented by Robert Lagoudis, Executive Director of IT Business Management for USAA. Following the opening session, speakers from the Career Center, USAA and other corporate guests presented on financial literacy, LinkedIn, social media, professional dress, resume preparation, salary negotiation, interviewing skills and personal branding. In addition, an employer panel consisting of professionals from a variety of industries discussed job search techniques.
During a working lunch, formal dining etiquette was taught, and the day wrapped up with a presentation on professional networking, followed by a networking mixer with students, staff members from UTSA, USAA and other corporate representatives. Throughout the day a LinkedIn photo booth was available for students to update their LinkedIn profile photo.
The event was highly successful and received numerous positive responses from students and employers alike. The Career Center thanks USAA for their generous sponsorship of the Career Conference, the many other corporate representatives who participated, and especially the students and alumni who took ownership in their professional development and success by attending.
