(Oct. 20, 2006)--The annual UTSA Walk for Women's Athletics on Saturday, Oct. 28 will help raise funds for the nine varsity women's sports that are offered at UTSA.

The 2006 event co-chairs, UTSA First Lady Harriett Romo (associate professor of sociology) and San Antonio First Lady Linda Hardberger, will lead the walk.

Being a college student and making financial ends meet is difficult enough, but couple that with a rigorous athletic practice and game schedule... and it is downright exhausting!

This is the 19th year that the Women's Walk, as it is known, will provide opportunities for female athletes to lessen financial pressures, help them focus on their academic education and continue to compete athletically. Scholarship funds generated by the walk have benefited many great female athletes.

The Women's Walk will be at the UTSA track on the 1604 Campus at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 28. Registration is at 9 am with opening ceremonies at 9:30 a.m. Teams or individuals participating in the event are encouraged to raise or donate at least $25 with a goal of $100 or more.

Chances to win an Apple iPod and American Airline tickets will be given to participants who raise $100 or more as a team or as an individual. The event will have many activities, including a silent auction, prize drawings, fashion show and an after-walk brunch.

For more information or to register, contact Laura Baker at (210) 458-4182 or visit the UTSA Athletics Web site.
