(April 24, 2007)--Robert Garcia, a UTSA senior accounting student, was selected as recipient of the annual $2,500 scholarship established by Sol Schwartz & Associates certified public accountants.

The award recognizing the top accounting student from area universities is based on academic achievement, economic need and leadership initiative.

A recent tragedy in Garcia's family nearly put his graduation plans on hold, but the scholarship will relieve some financial worries and enable him to continue his education and graduate on time. Besides maintaining a remarkable academic record, Garcia is involved in numerous campus organizations including Beta Alpha Psi, Student Government Association, UTSA Ambassadors and Toastmasters.

One of the largest independent certified public accounting firms in San Antonio, the firm established its accounting scholarship award in 2005 to commemorate the its 25th anniversary. Over 10 years, $25,000 in scholarships ($2,500 per year) will be awarded to an outstanding accounting college student in San Antonio. "The Sol Schwartz & Associates Accounting Scholarship Award supports our firm's proud tradition of community involvement with a strong emphasis on education," said managing shareholder Jeff Albrecht.

Students can download a scholarship application at the Sol Schwartz & Associates Web site. The application deadline is Sept. 30.
