Presenting sponsor, The Capital Group Companies, and a host of alumni volunteers promise a morning of good food, exercise and prizes. A premier UTSA Homecoming event, Diploma Dash also serves as the San Antonio City Championship Race.
Race-day registration, complimentary breakfast and stretching begin at 8 a.m. and the start gun fires at 9 a.m. The racecourse offers a certified 5K flat and fast course for accomplished runners and a scenic 1.5-mile course for those who prefer an easier pace.
"The Diploma Dash always attracts the best runners, sponsors and alumni who want to give something back to UTSA," said Danny Zimmermann, '01, chair of Diploma Dash 2008. "Proceeds benefit the Alumni Scholarship Fund, the UTSA track athletes, and alumni programs and services."
The race entry fee of $20 is due Feb. 27 ($30 race day). UTSA students who register at the Office of Alumni Programs before race day can enter for $10 with UTSACard. Each participant receives a long-sleeved Diploma Dash t-shirt and "goodie" bag.
Cash prizes, trophies and running shoes will be awarded for Men's and Women's Open. A round-trip American Airlines ticket will be awarded to Overall First Place Winners. Men's and Women's Masters categories will receive prizes and trophies. Custom medals will be awarded in 13 age categories and to Clydesdale and Filly divisions. The Corporate Team Challenge, the ROTC Challenge and the Student Challenge also are popular aspects of the race. Corporate partners can give support without registering a company team.
"We know it's going to be another record-breaking event this year in participants and sponsors," said Susan Campbell , '89, co-chair of this year's event. "And it is so much fun for everyone -- from the serious competitor to the weekend jogger or walker. My family will be there again this year."
Entry forms are available in January at San Antonio area sports stores including Roger Soler's Sports and Run.Gear.Run.
