(Oct. 23, 2008)--Alpha Building Corp. has earned an "Excellence in Construction" award from the Associated Builders and Contractors, South Texas Chapter, for their work on the UTSA Physical Plant Building renovation. The award selection panel named the UTSA physical plant renovation as the top project in the "Under $4 Million" category.

Alpha Building Corp. and UTSA were recognized at an Oct. 16 banquet at the Omni hotel.

"We are honored that a UTSA project was selected for this award," said Dave Riker, UTSA associate vice president for facilities. "Congratulations to Alpha Building Corp. and the UTSA team who were responsible for its success. Alpha has completed numerous quality projects for UTSA including the Physical Plant Building renovation, the build-out of the Starbucks on campus, laboratory renovations and completion of a significant new roadway and parking lot."

The Physical Plant Building encompasses approximately 20,000 square feet on two floors. Outdated mechanical systems were replaced and windows added to make the building usable for modern office space. The building interior was reconfigured to serve the needs of three departments: the UTSA Police Department, the Office of Information Technology including Telephone Services, and Parking and Transportation Services.

The new police department facility includes a state-of-the-art communications center and emergency operations center, along with new landscaping, irrigation and a pedestrian-friendly lounge at the front of the building.
