(March 6, 2009)--Matthew Leon hasn't graduated yet with his bachelor's degree, but the UTSA mechanical engineering major already has begun to network with others in engineering. An officer in the UTSA Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) student chapter, Leon attended SAE's fifth annual Leadership Development Program this year in Orlando, Fla.

Nominated by Brent Nowak, UTSA associate professor of mechanical engineering, Leon was the only Texan attending the leadership seminar.

"The leadership conference provided me with useful tools that will allow me to improve how our organization operates," said Leon. "More importantly, I was able to exchange knowledge with the engineers that will be pioneering the industry in the years to come."

So, what will Leon do when he graduates in 2010 with his engineering degree and a minor in math?

"I'm not sure," he said. "I feel like I can almost do anything. I'm starting to look into the automotive industry... we need a revolution in that area."
