UTSA to present tax workshop for international UTSA students Feb. 24
(Feb. 22, 2011)--The UTSA Payroll Office and the Office of International Programs will present a tax workshop for all international students from 3 to 5 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 24 in the Business Building University Room (2.06.04) on the Main Campus.
International students are required by law to file:
- Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Form 8843 (Statement for Exempt Individuals)
- 1040NR-EZ (U.S. Income Tax Return for Certain Nonresident Aliens With No Dependents) and
- 1040NR (U.S. Nonresident Alien Income Tax Return).
All F-1 and J-1 visa holders with no income during 2010 must file Form 8843 by June 15, 2011.
For those who earned income in the United States during 2010, income tax returns must be filed by April 15, 2011.
Failure to properly file these forms each year can cause problems with an international student's immigration status. The necessary tax forms will be available at the workshop.
No registration is needed.
