UTSA College of Architecture, Construction and Planning symposium is Nov. 21
(Nov. 18, 2014) --The UTSA College of Architecture, Construction and Planning (CACP) will host a daylong symposium to showcase the breadth of its faculty research and expertise. The free, public event will be held 8 a.m.-7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 21 on the first floor of the Buena Vista Street Building at the UTSA Downtown Campus.
The symposium will feature 23 presentations of recently published work by CACP faculty on a variety of architectural, design, construction, conservation and planning topics.
"As the university continues on its path toward Tier One status, it is important that the UTSA College of Architecture, Construction and Planning stays at the forefront of innovation and research in all of its disciplines," said John Murphy, dean of the college. "Through their research, the college's top-tier CACP faculty members strive to be leaders in their respective fields. Our faculty are pushing the boundaries of their disciplines by furthering academic discovery, spurring creativity in research and rigorously testing existing built environment technologies in order to enact positive change."

"The UTSA College of Architecture, Construction and Planning is comprised of top-tier faculty members conducting impactful research," said Hazem Rashed-Ali, CACP associate dean of research and graduate studies. "The annual CACP Faculty Research Symposium is an opportunity to emphasize the ways in which our faculty is pushing their respective fields to the next level."
Architects Upali Nanda and Alison Kwok will serve as keynote speakers in the Buena Vista Theater (1.326) at 2 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively.
Nanda is the vice president and director of research at HKS Architects, an international architecture and design firm founded in 1939. A highly published researcher and registered architect, her research interests range from visual art to safety, efficiency and return-on-investment studies. Her keynote speech is titled "The Changing Paradigm in Architectural Practice: Research Comes of Age."
Kwok is a professor of architecture at Oregon University. Through her work, research and teaching, she focuses on environmentally responsible design and building performance. She is the co-author of "The Green Studio Handbook" (Architectural Press, 2007), a guidebook for design professionals, students and the public that provides practical guidelines for applying environmental strategies to the design of green buildings. Her keynote address is titled "Ninety-five Percent: Framing the Questions for Research."
