Vote for UTSA Downtown Campus in mayor's Light Up Downtown SA contest
(Dec. 3, 2014) -- UTSA students, faculty, staff and supporters can help UTSA win Mayor Ivy Taylor's Light Up Downtown SA Holiday Contest. Vote each day through Dec. 19 from any and all of your email accounts by going to the Light Up Downtown SA website.
UTSA is entered in the category People's Choice: Best Use of Space. At the website, select "Best Use of Space," scroll to the bottom of the page to "UTSA Downtown Campus" and select "Vote."
The UTSA Downtown Campus, as a bright beacon for higher education, has an LED lighting display created by students that incorporates the UTSA colors of white, orange and blue. Come see how we shine!
The contest is a way to enjoy the dazzling holiday displays and decorations of downtown storefronts and organizations -- and vote for your favorites. This year, more than 70 businesses will participate to turn downtown into a winter wonderland of lights. The goal is to encourage people to visit downtown during the holidays and take in the magical sights.
"These awesome decorations truly help make the Alamo City shine," said Mayor Ivy Taylor. "I encourage everyone to come downtown during the holidays to see all of the wonderful light displays, and I hope they will take a moment to vote for their favorite, which always makes the contest a fun and friendly competition."
Other categories include Greenest Lighting Display, Critic's Choice & People's Choice -- Storefront, and Critic's Choice & People's Choice -- Building. Winners will be recognized at the Celebrate San Antonio New Year's Eve event.
Among the businesses participating in the Light Up Downtown Holiday Contest are San Antonio Fire Museum, 22 Salon & Spa, UTSA Downtown Campus, Vidorra Condominiums, Hilton Palacio Del Rio, Casino Club Building and the PopUp Shops on Houston Street, among others.
Last year, some 4,799 people voted online for their favorite creative display of holiday lights. Participating businesses will display a decal with a QR code that links to the website to allow voting from smartphones. The displays will be lit through early January.
