Hundreds of military scholars to gather at UTSA for July 24 research forum
(July 23, 2015) -- Hundreds of members of the military will gather at The University of Texas at San Antonio tomorrow to attend one of the city’s largest professional development forums focused on health care research. The San Antonio Military Health System and Universities Research Forum (SURF) will showcase the latest research and discoveries of trainees, faculty, staff and students from health-related disciplines.
Throughout the day, research, practice, policy and collaborations will be presented through papers, poster presentations and symposium sessions. The forum’s tracks include behavioral health, public health and wellness, regenerative medicine, bedside clinical care, and policy, practice and collaboration. The forum will also host a track for members of the military focused on pre-hospital, emergency, trauma and critical care.
“As the Department of Defense’s budgets decrease year after year, it is becoming more challenging for members of the military to travel outside of their regions for top-tier professional development,” said Mauli Agrawal, Peter Flawn Professor of Biomedical Engineering and UTSA vice president for research. “The SURF forum will provide an opportunity for members of our local military to share their research and learn about the latest discoveries happening right here in San Antonio. It will also help our respective researchers to network with one another so they can develop new partnerships to advance critical areas in health care.”
A sampling of tomorrow’s research presentations will include:
