(May 13, 2016) -- This evening, 96 graduates of The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) Honors College will cross the stage of the Convocation Center on the UTSA Main Campus in a special ceremony honoring the students’ commitment to academic achievement.

During the ceremony, each student will receive a special Honors College stole to wear the following weekend to UTSA’s commencement ceremonies at the Alamodome, where a total of 117 students will graduate from the Honors College. The stole is an important part of the ceremony, bestowed on the students by their thesis advisors as a way to recognize the faculty’s support to Honors graduates during their academic careers at UTSA. Students who are graduating with honors but did not do a thesis project receive their stole from the Associate Dean of the Honors College or, in the case of students graduating with Business Honors, from the Associate Dean of the College of Business.

The UTSA Honors College serves undergraduate students from all academic disciplines who want to pursue a rigorous academic program that allows them to graduate from two colleges: the college of their major as well as the Honors College. Students may graduation with four honors distinctions.

Highest Honors requires the completion of an honors thesis project. Leadership Honors provides students with the opportunity to expand their leadership capabilities. General Honors offers a broad interdisciplinary experience, and Business Honors allows accomplished business students to work closely with business faculty.

Students who master a foreign language at the sophomore level or pursue study abroad for a semester or longer receive International Distinction in addition to their Honors distinction.

The event begins at 4 p.m. and will be followed by a reception in the H-E-B University Center Ballroom.
