Peanut butter donations accepted as form of payment for UTSA parking citations

Donations collected at UTSA will help fight hunger in southwest Texas

(August 29, 2016) -- It’s peanut butter parking time once again at The University of Texas at San Antonio. UTSA Campus Services, in partnership with the Student Government Association (SGA) and the San Antonio Food Bank, have launched the university’s second annual peanut butter parking campaign. Eligible parking citations issued between Monday, August 29 and Friday, September 2 can be paid with a donation of peanut butter.

The amount of peanut butter required to pay each eligible citation depends on the type of citation a driver receives.

The following types of citations are eligible for peanut butter payment:

• Parking without a proper permit: $50

Peanut Butter Payment: 40 oz. or more

• Parking without a permit: $100

Peanut Butter Payment: 80 oz. or more

All other citations are subject to standard payment and policies. Peanut butter payments must be received within 14 calendar days of the citation date; otherwise, standard payment is due along with the standard $10 late fee. Peanut butter payments are valid for one citation per customer and appealing the citation forfeits the right to pay with peanut butter.

To submit a donation, bring your eligible citation and peanut butter payment to Campus Services in the Multidisciplinary Studies Building (MS 1.01.52) on the Main Campus or in the Frio Street Building (FS 1.506) on the Downtown Campus during standard business hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

All donations received during the campaign will be delivered to the San Antonio Food Bank to help fight hunger in southwest Texas. Peanut butter is among the most needed items at food banks because it has a long shelf life, is a high source of protein and is a popular food item.

Last year, more than 700 pounds of donated peanut butter was collected during the university’s inaugural peanut butter parking campaign. UTSA Campus Services hopes to collect even more peanut butter this year.

In addition to accepting peanut butter for eligible citations, Campus Services welcomes donations from those who don’t have citations.
