UT System advisory committee invites input on search for new UTSA President
Committee will hold a campus forum on December 2 at UTSA Main Campus
(Nov. 21, 2016) -- The UTSA Presidential Search Advisory Committee will hold a town hall meeting to receive input from the campus community on the search for the university’s next president. The meeting is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. on Friday, December 2 in the Main Building Auditorium (MB 0.104) on the UTSA Main Campus. A livestream will available for viewing at the Downtown Campus in the Buena Vista Building Assembly Room (BVB 1.338).
The UT System named a search advisory committee to make recommendations on possible successors to UTSA President Ricardo Romo, who announced his plans to retire in 2017.
Steven Leslie, UT System executive vice chancellor for academic affairs, will chair the search advisory committee. Its members also include:
- Board of Regents (Vice Chairman Steven Hicks and Regent Ernest Aliseda)
- UT institution presidents (Guy Bailey, president of UT Rio Grande Valley; and William Henrich, M.D., president of UT Health San Antonio)
- UTSA dean, faculty, staff and student (JoAnn Browning, dean of the College of Engineering; Emily Bonner, associate professor of interdisciplinary learning and teaching and UTSA Faculty Senate chair; Hamid Beladi, associate dean of research; Heather Shipley, associate professor of civil engineering; alternate Hazem Rashed-Ali, associate dean of research and graduate studies; Elisa Perkins, associate director for diversity and recruitment; and Andrew Hubbard, UTSA SGA President)
- Alumni and community members (Michael Klein, president of the UTSA Alumni Association Board of Directors; James Bodenstedt, CEO and president of MUY!; Francisco Cigarroa, M.D., director of pediatric transplantation, UT Health San Antonio; and Martin Salinas, CEO and director of Phase 4 Energy Partners).

We want to ensure the next president builds on this trajectory,” UT System Board of Regents chairman Paul L. Foster said. “We are grateful to the members of the search advisory committee for their service and their role in this process and we look forward to hearing their feedback and recommendations."
The UT System will establish a website to provide the public with information regarding the search, including a timeline. Members of the public who cannot attend the December 2 meeting may privately submit nominations for the next president of UTSA through the website as well as input related to the search. The website will be publicized subsequent to the first meeting of the search committee.
Witt/Kieffer, a global executive recruitment firm, is assisting the UT System in the national search.
