Projects

Summer Reading Projects
The Summer Reading Projects are for students in the Learning Communities Program ONLY.
You must complete ONE of the following projects for a grade in your Freshman Seminar class:
- Create a collage using photos, magazine clippings, and/or small artifacts (18” x 18” secured to cardstock or poster board) OR create an original piece of visual art (sculpture, painting, drawing, or electronic graphic) that symbolizes what ‘going green’ means to you and incoming students at UTSA. Include a response paper explaining your piece and how it relates. Papers must be typed, double-spaced, Times New Roman 12 point font, one inch margins all around, and at least 300 words.
- Interview three (3) family members or friends and ask them the following questions:
- In your own words, describe what it means to go green.
- Should we as Americans be concerned with the impact our daily activities and routines have on the environment? Why or why not?
- What, if anything, have you done in your life to be greener?
- Write a response paper answering the following questions: Do you believe Americans are behind the rest of the world when it comes to green initiatives? Why or why not? What issues were brought to your attention by the book, Farewell, My Subaru? Papers must be typed, double-spaced, Times New Roman 12 point font, one inch margins all around, and at least 300 words. Please attach your interviews to your response paper.
- Doug Fine perseveres in all of his challenges to live a greener lifestyle. What have you persevered through to be where you are today? What do you believe you will need to persevere through in the next five years? What does Farewell, My Subaru teach readers about perseverance and taking risks? Papers must be typed, double-spaced, Times New Roman 12 point font, one inch margins all around, and at least 300 words.
- What current government initiatives are contributing to a greener United States? Are policymakers doing enough or too much to assist Americans in lessening our carbon footprint? Papers must be typed, double-spaced, Times New Roman 12 point font, one inch margins all around, and at least 300 words.
