Scholar Support Program (SSP)
In the past, many of the
students receiving certain scholarships lost them after their first year, because
of academic difficulties. The Scholar Support Program (SSP) helps participants by providing the following
services to students in the program:
- An Advisor/Coordinator who provides individualized academic advising and contacts students at key transitional times during the semester
- Enrollment in a customized section of the Freshman Seminar, COR 1203, to be taught by the student's advisor
- Specialized learning skills workshops focusing on topics relevant to SSP participants
- Monthly social and academic gathering, featuring speakers on important topics such as financial aid, career services and research and volunteer opportunities on campus.
Participants in the Scholar Support Program have achieved a very high
level of academic success. In past years, 80-86% of SSP participants have been
successful enough to return for their sophomore year, compared to 63-66% for the
rest of the freshman class.
