Meet the Team!
Anthony Levine
Anthony Levine is possibly the greatest and most humble tutor in the Writing Center. World-renowned for his sense of humor, Anthony's been tutoring since Sept. of 2007. Before that, he served as Editor of the University News, the official paper of a private university that would prefer not to be named, and Editor of the Franklin High School Chronicle in El Paso, TX. His summers are spent interning and editing at magazines and advertising agencies, writing creative fiction, street luging in drainage ditches, pipe dreaming and marveling at his accidental puns. He hopes you'll come by the Center and meet with him or one of the other excellent and friendly tutors.
Priyanka Bhandari
Priyanka Bhandari is a senior majoring in English with a concentration on creative writing and a minor in legal studies, with plans to attend law school after graduation. She is the Features Editor of The Paisano, the independent student newspaper, and also works as a supplemental instructor for Introduction to Astronomy. She enjoys reading, writing, singing, playing the piano, long conversations, and of course UTSA. She was born and raised in Houston, but is enjoying her time here in San Antonio.
Jeff Miller
I am a recent graduate of the English Master’s program here at UTSA. My focus for most of my studies since my junior year as an undergraduate has been in some of the linguistics disciplines (dialectology, sociolinguistics, historical linguistics, and stylistics), and I have presented my research at both local and national conferences. For the past four years, I have been tutoring students in writing, first at Northwest Vista College in 2004 and 2005 and then here at UTSA, where I’ve been helping students improve their writing for the past three years. I am an aspiring fantasy writer in my spare time; in fact, a substantial amount of my graduate studies, including my Master’s Thesis, touched on speculative fiction, particularly gendered language, archaisms, and genre theory.
Cori Miller
Cori Alice Miller is a 2nd year graduate student in the English Master's program at
UTSA. She obtained her B.A. in English from Howard Payne University in 2006 with honors. Through these English programs, she has studied in such pertinent classes as Advanced Grammar, Critical Approaches to Literature, Creative Writing, and many years of literary application courses. Cori Alice's interests are reading, swimming, catching up on movies, and spending time with her husband on the couch eating ice cream. Although she has only been with The Writing Center for a year, she has helped many students move toward a higher level of academic-based writing and enjoys meeting new students every day.
Ryan Reavis
I am a non-traditional student who has returned after many years to complete my education. My undergraduate studies were completed here at UTSA in the field of Humanities. My background is mainly in Classics and Philosophy. It wasn't until I returned to begin my graduate work that I changed my focus to English studies. I enjoy Literature and Grammar studies, but am not so keen on theory. Working for TWC has been one of the most challenging and rewarding parts of my life. After working in the corporate world for many years, I have come to realize that academia is where my heart is. I hope that if you are reading this you will choose to come in and see me or one of my fantastic colleagues. We thrive when we have some of the work we so love to do--helping others.
Kristin Wheeler
Kristin Wheeler is a graduate student currently seeking her M.A. in English. She is from Tallahassee, Florida and received her B.A. in English Literature with minors in Biology and Chemistry from Florida State University. She has worked as a tutor with the UTSA Writing Center since the beginning of 2008 and looks forward to continuing her work there this semester.
Jessie Gonzales
My name is Jessica Gonzales, but on the job I go by Jessie. I am a senior here at UTSA, majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies, EC-4th grade, bilingual generalist. I enjoy being a student at UTSA and look forward to furthering my education once I complete my bachelor's degree. I have been happily working at the Writing Center since March of 2008. I enjoy working as a tutor because it is such a rewarding job to help students improve their writing. Writing tutors are here to help since writing can be a process that does not always come easy.
Omar Quimbaya
您好!我叫齐漠,并且我爱中国!如果您有写作的问题,来我们的写作中心!我们很高兴帮助您!
我们欢迎您!
Hello! My name is Omar Quimbaya, a Puerto Rican
and Colombian guy (中文名
字:齐漠), and I am one of the many talented writing tutors that are here
to assist you at the Writing Center. My dream is to live and work in
China teaching English literature and writing at the university level.
I am originally from San Antonio, Texas, but I have lived in Shanghai,
China, for six months, and I am learning 普通话. I am not fluent, but my
progress has been very good. At UTSA, I study Creative Writing,
Business, and Chinese. However, in China, I studied Business and the
Chinese language and culture. If you need help in your writing, please
feel free to come see me, and I will do my best to assist you. I am a
very positive person, and I have a strong interest in people because
we are all so different, and I embrace diversity. I believe that
through clear and concise communication, we can all achieve a more
harmonious society and world. Through the Writing Center, I hope to
give students from all over the world the chance to improve their
writing skills in order for us to achieve this harmony. Let us work
together and do something great!
Cat Cook
I hold a broad definition of literature and I enjoy reading almost anything. Every day my four cats teach me how to love and be loved in return. Video games occupy most of my free time, from console to computer. Although I sometimes seem quiet, I am very passionate about social concerns, such as poverty, women's rights, gay rights, and sex education. To me, writing is an effective way to initiate change and push for knowledge and equality. I've been working at The Writing Center since September of 2007.
Brian Slaughter
I am a 22 year old English major, concentrating on Creative Writing and minoring in Women and Gender Studies. After graduating with my BA in December 2008, I plan to move out of town to pursue a Master's in creative writing (which is exciting for me because I've lived in San Antonio my entire life). Tutoring is such a rewarding experience for me, not only because I help students improve their writing skills, but I learn something from every paper I read. I have been working at the Writing Center since March 2008.
Christina Garza
Christina completed her Master’s in English in May 2008 and is currently working on her Creative Writing Certificate. During her studies here at UTSA she has won numerous creative writing awards, completed her creative writing thesis entitled Blind Spot, and is a founding member of the Students for the Literary Journal at UTSA which is in its third production of the Sagebrush Review. In 2006, Christina spent a year in Ciudad Real, Espaņa, teaching Conversational English to university students, faculty and staff at la Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, and used all her earnings to travel Europe. Back in the States, she loves to spend her time reading, writing, training Muay Thai, watching UFC and trash talking. She is writing the next great American novel and is working on having more of her poetry published. As a tutor at The Writing Center for the last three years, she sincerely enjoys helping students become better writers.
David Tober
I'm David Tober, a non-traditional student. I returned to college after a 30-year absence. I started my career at San Antonio College where I earned an Associate's Degree. While there, I worked in the Grammar lab of the English Department. First, as a student assistant, which taught me how to tutor in grammar. I then became a writing tutor. As such, I work one-on-one with students. I enjoy the work and the challenges it presents. I have been tutoring for 8 years. I transferred to UTSA, to earn my Bachelor's Degree. I started working at the Writing Center in May 08 right after graduating from UTSA. I now work at both San Antonio College and at UTSA. Both provide me with different challenges and experiences.
Sharon Davis
Sharon Davis received her master's degree at Oklahoma State University before she left her hometown of Stillwater Oklahoma. She has since taught English in Tunisia, Korea, Honduras, and Mexico, where she still maintains a home part-time. She has traveled in many countries and considers herself a world citizen. She looks forward to helping students with research and composition.
JJ Henderson
I am a first-year graduate student majoring in English. I used to do research in the medical field, but that turned out to be the wrong profession. Writing is my passion (I work at the writing center because I can’t help it). I’ve written a novel and a memoir, hoping someday they will find their way to a bookshelf (on earth). I have seen some of my stories and poetry in print, and not to brag, I won the Wendy Barker Award for creative writing in 2006. My best work so far, however, is a soon-to-be five-year-old little girl named Kate (also a genius of some sort).
Robyn Glasscock
Robyn Glasscock holds a B.A. in English from UTSA and is currently a graduate student enrolled in the English Program at UTSA. In April 2008, she was the first recipient of the Kenneth Alan Hovey Memorial Scholarship. She is an adjunct professor of English for Northwest College in Wyoming where she has taught for the past three years. She specializes in crafting college-level essays and workshopping poetry.
Juan Robledo
Hi there. My name is Juan Robledo III and I am a first year graduate student in the Master's program in teaching English as a second language at UTSA. I completed my B.A. in English with an emphasis in professional writing and Psychology in May of 2006 here at UTSA. I have been working in The Writing Center since August of 2006 and I must say working for the WC has been one of the most rewarding and enjoyable experiences in my life. I am fluent in Spanish and have been studying the Japanese language vigorously for the last two years. I also write stories for the features section of the Paisano student newspaper on a part time basis and love meeting people of many different cultures and backgrounds in and outside of the WC. When all is said and done, I plan to teach English abroad, preferably in Japan. I look forward to working with you!
Cristyn Coltharp
Cristyn Coltharp attended American University in Washington D.C., where she studied Communications and Psychology for five semesters before moving back to San Antonio, her hometown. She subsequently enrolled at UTSA. Cristyn is now an English major and will begin student teaching at the high school level in the Spring of 2009. Along with being a life-long reader and writer, Cristyn also has experience as a teacher, working with her three younger brothers, her young son, and students in various field experiences facilitated by the College of Education and Human Development. Cristyn views her time at the Writing Center as valuable both because of the experience she can bring to UTSA students and in the experience she can gain from assisting them.
Deirdre Lopez-Marquez
Deirdre is studying for her Master's degree in English Literature and is hoping to graduate in Fall 2009. She graduated from Sam Houston State University in 2005 with a B.A. in English and Spanish. After the completion of her Master's degree, she plans on obtaining her PhD in the areas of cross-cultural 19th century literature and Medieval Studies. She has been working at a writing center or in an editing field since 2003. In her spare time, Deirdre likes to spend time with her two calico cats (Seven and Migas) and mini-schnauzer (Stella). She also enjoys sailing around the world in her 100 foot yacht.
Reggie Cantu
Regina Cantu was raised in Mexico City. She is majoring in Philosophy and thoroughly enjoys classes of varied disciplines, including Spanish Literature, Sociology, and International Studies. Though she will be studying in Cyprus during the Fall, Regina looks forward to resuming her work as a member of the Writing Center staff at UTSA!
Adam Coronado
Adam Coronado studies English for Professional and Creative Writing at UTSA. He tutors part time and works many jobs. In the future, he will be a husband, father, novelist and practicer of non-violent martial arts.
Erica Rodriguez
My name is Erica Rodriguez and I am currently a junior here at UTSA. I’m majoring in English with an emphasis on both Creative and Professional Writing and minoring in Communications. I am very outgoing, friendly and hold true to my Christian beliefs and values. I write music, sing and have been a dancer my whole life. I have been actively involved here at UTSA
with The Hispanic Student Association and Campus Crusade for Christ. I have been
a receptionist here at the Writing Center for a year now and it has become a
great experience for me. I am here to help you with anything regarding our
center and would love to meet you!
Jessica Spaulding, Receptionist
My name's Jessica Spaulding and I'm one of the receptionists at the Writing Center. I'm only 19 years old and I'm pretty sure I'm the youngest person on staff. I moved to San Antonio for school from Las Cruces, New Mexico where I lived for 16 years. I was really sad to leave my home but I love UTSA. I'm a sophomore majoring in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations. I'm also a member of a sorority, Alpha Omicron Pi. Between my position at the Writing Center, AOII, and of course classes I am on campus a lot. When you come into the Writing Center I can't hep you with your paper but I can definitely set you up with a tutor who can.
