Text Box: Chief Hernandez has been a police officer for over 21 years, retiring from the Rochester Police Department, Rochester, NY on January 11, 2006, where he held the positions of Deputy Chief of Administration, Commander of Special Services Division, Captain of the Special Investigations Section and Captain of the Special Operations Section. He has a Master of Public Administration, (State University of New York at Brockport, 2003) a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology (Hobart College, 1981) and is a graduate of the F.B.I. National Academy, Session 217, (2004). He has also completed the Rochester Leadership Academy and Hispanic Leadership Development Program.  Chief Hernandez’s professional experiences include working as the Assistant Director of Admissions at Hobart College, as an underwriter for the Allstate Insurance Company, and as a Bi-lingual Elementary School Teacher for the City of Rochester School District.  Chief Hernandez is responsible for ensuring that the police department provides professional services that are in line with the university’s vision for the future and address the needs of the students, staff, faculty, and guests.

Text Box: Assistant Chief Pena attended The University of Texas System Police Academy, in 1980.  He moved up the ranks within the UTSA PD from detective , to Investigations Sergeant, to Investigations Lieutenant, to Administrative Captain. He was promoted to Assistant Chief in 2001.  Assistant Chief Pena has attended the FBI  National Academy, 165th session - Quantico, Virginia, in 1991 and the American Crime Prevention Institute: Crime Prevention through Environmental Design - Advanced Specialist in 2003.  Assistant Chief Pena has a Bachelor of Science degree from Wayland Baptist University - San Antonio, Texas: in Criminal Justice (2002).  The Assistant Chief of Police is responsible for managing police operations and personnel to effectively provide a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors.
