These non-commissioned uniformed officers are on duty 365 days a year and team with UTSAPD to increase security. They patrol buildings, respond to alarms and suspicious activity, and provide security escorts for students, faculty, staff and visitors on all campuses.

This week offers a special opportunity to recognize these professionals during National Security Officer Appreciation Week. We encourage you to take a moment to thank the public safety officers you encounter. A simple "thank you" goes a long way in honoring the vital role they play every day.

"Public safety officers can be found easily on campus patrolling on foot, in public safety vehicles and carts, and on bicycles,” said Jessenia Skelton, senior executive director of Security Services. “This is a special week to recognize and thank them for their commitment to keep our community safe by deterring crimes, responding to emergencies and providing such services as safety escorts and vehicle assistance. Even when many offices are closed on weekends and holidays, public safety officers are still here, ensuring that protection never takes a day off."

National Security Officer Appreciation Week was established in 2015 by Allied Universal, a leading security services provider, to highlight the essential contributions of security professionals across the country. At UT San Antonio, we are proud to celebrate our own public safety officers and the critical work they do to keep our community safe.
