Integration Organizational Updates
As we approach integration on September 1, the Integration Steering Committee (ISC) continues to work diligently to ensure the best possible structure for the future institution. Today I am writing to share an update to the leadership structure for our new, unified university, as announced earlier this year.
It is with appreciation for his service that I share that Jason King has accepted a new position at Hofstra University, effective June 16. Jason has served as UTSA’s Associate Vice President of Strategic Risk Management and Chief Legal Officer (CLO) since 2023 and has expertly supported the university through many legal and compliance complexities. We are grateful for the support and guidance he has offered to our Roadrunner community and wish him the best in his new role.
Beginning June 1, the legal team will report to Hailey Mullican, Vice President for Legal Affairs and CLO at UT Health San Antonio. Hailey will serve as the Interim Vice President for Legal Affairs and CLO at UTSA until August 31, when she will then become the Vice President for Legal Affairs and CLO of our merged university. I am very grateful for her leadership and look forward to working with her and our valued legal teams as they integrate.
In light of Jason’s departure, we will temporarily pause the creation of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) as a stand-alone division for the new university scheduled to launch on September 1. Instead, we are taking a thoughtful and well-coordinated approach by evaluating each ERM function individually and strategically integrating them into a more decentralized structure to ensure continued efficiency and high performance during this transition.
To support this effort, beginning June 1, our Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) will begin reporting to Kendra Ketchum, UTSA’s Vice President for Information Management and Technology. Audit and consulting at UTSA will continue to report to Carlos Martinez, Chief of Staff and Senior Vice President for Institutional Strategic Planning, Compliance Risk Management and Office Operations. Our compliance teams, including Equal Opportunity Services (EOS), will temporarily report to Mary Hernandez, Senior Vice President for Administration and Operations and Chief Operating Officer at UTSA. During this time, she will serve as a steward for compliance so that we can more fully consider its best fit within the new organizational structure.
Aligning these functions allows us to accelerate integration while thoughtfully evaluating how to build high-performing, service-oriented divisions for a much larger and more complex university. This work will be guided by the Integration Management Office as part of a comprehensive functional review.
I again want to offer my thanks and appreciation to Jason, Hailey, Carlos and Mary, as well as our Integration Steering Committee, for their collaboration and support as we continue to build the best possible foundation for our future powerhouse university.
With much appreciation,
Taylor Eighmy, PhD
President, The University of Texas at San Antonio
Acting President, UT Health San Antonio
