About the Senior Vice Provost and Dean of Students
Dr. LaTonya (LT) Robinson serves as the Senior Vice Provost for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at The University of Texas at San Antonio, where she leads a comprehensive student affairs division that is an integral part of the institution's academic enterprise. At her core, she is a systems builder who focuses on aligning people, processes, and experiences to create a student journey that feels connected, responsive, and meaningful from start to finish.
With more than two decades of progressive leadership in higher education, Dr. Robinson has developed a reputation for strengthening organizations from the inside out. Since joining the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2017, she has served in multiple leadership roles, including Assistant Dean of Students, Director of the Student Leadership Center, and Interim Dean of Students, before being appointed to her current role in 2019. Her earlier work in residence life at The University of Texas at Austin and East Carolina University shaped her approach to student development, crisis response, and community building.
Originally from Houston, Texas, and as a first-generation college graduate, Dr. Robinson brings a personal understanding of how overwhelming college can feel without clear guidance. That perspective continues to shape how she leads. She is committed to building environments where students can find their footing, make sense of their experiences, and move forward with confidence. Her work centers on creating systems that reduce friction, strengthen connection, and help students stay on track without losing sight of who they are becoming.
Dr. Robinson’s leadership style is both strategic and grounded in relationships. She often describes her role as a guide on the side, creating the conditions for others to lead while maintaining clarity of direction. She is known for navigating complexity with intention, bringing people together around shared goals, and translating big ideas into practical action. Her approach reflects a balance of innovation and follow-through, always with an eye toward outcomes that matter for students and the institution.
She is equally committed to the people who do this work every day. Dr. Robinson invests in building strong, collaborative teams and believes that staff development is essential to student success. She encourages her teams to take care of themselves, stay connected to one another, and remain open to learning and growth. Her leadership is grounded in service, dignity, and growth, which shows up in how she builds trust, offers feedback, and supports others through challenges.
In addition to her institutional leadership, Dr. Robinson contributes to the broader field of student affairs through speaking and professional engagement. She often focuses on leadership development, systems alignment, and how to move meaningful work forward in complex environments.
Dr. Robinson earned her bachelor’s degree from Sam Houston State University, her master’s degree from Western Illinois University, and her doctorate in Organizational Leadership from Abilene Christian University. She is a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated and several honor societies, including Phi Kappa Phi, Alpha Chi, and Omicron Delta Kappa.
