Regalia

All participants must wear UTSA custom navy academic regalia.

The tassel is worn on the right side of the cap for Undergraduates until the end of the commencement ceremony when graduates are instructed to shift the tassel to the left side. The tassel is worn on the left side for Masters and Doctoral.

You are encouraged to wear dark shoes since dark accessories have a more favorable appearance with the formal academic wear.

For those students who were not able to pre-order, regalia (cap, gown, tassel, etc) will be available for purchase through commencement. The regalia will only be available for purchase at the Rowdy Campus Store on the Main Campus.

How do I purchase regalia (cap, gown, tassel) for commencement?

Bachelor's, master's and doctoral graduate regalia can be purchased online until Nov. 24, 2025 at Herff Jones website.

If you missed Grad Fest, regalia can be purchased beginning Dec. 3, 2025, through commencement at the Rowdy Campus Store on the Main Campus.

I pre-ordered my regalia online/during Grad Fest. When and where will I receive it?

Regalia purchased through the Herff Jones website will be shipped to the student's home address provided at time of order and will arrive within 14–17 business days of order.

I ordered my regalia after Grad Fest through the Herff Jones website. When will it arrive?

All online orders ship directly to students' home address provided at time of order within 14–17 days.

When does the ordering website close?

The Herff Jones website closes on Nov 13. If you miss the deadline, a late order website opens Nov 14 and closes Nov 24, with all orders shipping to students' home with 2nd Day Air. Additionally, students can purchase regalia at the Rowdy Campus Store beginning Dec 3, while supplies last.

I was unable to attend Grad Fest and need to order my regalia. What can I do?

Visit the Herff Jones website to place an order. Beginning Dec. 3, 2025, through commencement, everything you need will be available for purchase at the Rowdy Campus Store on the Main Campus.

Where do I get Honors cords?

Honors cords will be provided at the Alamodome on the day of your Commencement Ceremony.

Why are there different color tassels and hoods for master’s degrees?

Each major discipline has its own tassel/hood color as designated by the American Council on Education (ACE) and its Academic Costume Code.

I am receiving a doctoral degree but was unable to attend Grad Fest. How can I rent regalia for commencement?

PhD rentals will be available on the Herff Jones website and at the Rowdy Campus Store on the Main Campus beginning Dec. 3, 2025.

I would like to purchase custom PhD regalia, but I missed the purchase deadline. What are my options?

Custom PhD or EdD regalia can be purchased at Herff Jones website. Academic Apparel is for purchase only and will take approximately 6 weeks to manufacture. If you need apparel sooner than the standard 6 weeks manufacturing, you may choose expedited manufacturing options for 3-week, 4-week, and 5-week manufacturing later in the ordering process when you check out. Please allow an additional week for shipping.
