Updates for March 19, 2020
UTSA is responding to the COVID-19 outbreak with a commitment to supporting the safety of the university community while enabling the academic progress of students.
- REC CLOSURE: In response to guidance from government and health agencies, UTSA has closed its Campus Rec facilities. Please pick up your locker contents between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Friday, March 20. If you cannot retrieve your items, your locker rental will be extended into summer.
- CHILD CARE: The Child Development Center is closed, effective March 19.
- FACULTY EVALUATIONS: Academic Affairs is developing guidance to address faculty concerns about coronavirus-related disruption to teaching and research activities that are in included in evaluations such as promotion/tenure, Annual Reviews, CPE and 3rd Year Reviews, etc. Watch your inbox for details in the coming weeks.
- SPRING BREAK ASSIGNMENTS: Per Provost Kimberly Andrews Espy’s email to faculty on March 11, “There should not be any required due dates for course work during this extended spring break week for students.” If you have due dates for your students this week, please postpone them and allow students to submit that work for full credit during the week of March 23.
- EMAIL YOUR STUDENTS: UTSA held a virtual town hall today for students, and some of them said that they have not heard from their professors and instructors about their plans for next week. Please communicate with your students as soon as possible about and specifics for your courses related to the upcoming transition to online classes, which resume on Monday.
- STAFF Q&A: Attend a virtual town hall that will answer questions about UTSA business operations and academic continuity.
- TECH HELP: Need to hold meetings, share documents or deliver online instruction? Review UTSA’s inventory of available Technology Resources for faculty and staff to find the best choice for you. Also, remember to contact 210-458-5555 for help if you need it.
- INTERNET ACCESS: Experiencing slower than usual internet speeds at home? Internet service providers (AT&T, Spectrum, etc.) are seeing an enormous increase in usage. Save work on your computer frequently and upload it during slower usage periods. You can also test your connection speed online with SpeedTest.
