Dear Faculty Colleagues, Today, the preliminary Fall 2021 Class Schedule is available for view by our current students in preparation for the April 5 kickoff of registration. We are sharing this information with you, too, as part of our ongoing Fall 2021 plans that are designed to fully involve our students on campus with extensive in-person classroom instruction and enriching out-of-classroom activities — thanks to the increasing availability of COVID-19 vaccines and continued improvement in the public health outlook. We are truly excited for the fall semester and this opportunity to get back on campus and reap the full benefits of face-to-face engagement with students, while simultaneously leveraging the innovation and accessibility we have realized this past year through our experiences with remote teaching and student learning. Thank you for your efforts in the development of this initial Fall 2021 schedule of courses with this in mind. We appreciate your work in thinking carefully about what innovative pedagogical practices can be continued this fall to effectively advance the success of our students, as well as the results of the recent survey in which UTSA students shared input on their ranked preferences for course modalities for the fall semester. In one way, this year is no different than years prior — this initial class schedule is dynamic, with ongoing changes over the course of the registration cycle in response to student registration patterns, often up until the first week of classes. During registration each semester, the colleges, registrar and other support areas actively monitor class enrollment and wait list demand. Class sections and modalities will be modified further as needed to be responsive to student demand. We thank you in advance for supporting your department chairs and college dean’s office colleagues in this effort as we work to help all our students get the courses they need to progress successfully toward earning their degrees. We are certain you have additional questions about planning for Fall 2021. UTSA’s Public Health Task Force currently is preparing recommendations for a safe return to campus and will host a town hall later this semester after their report is released. In the meantime, you are welcome to share your comments and questions by emailing provost@utsa.edu so that we can address them in future communications.
