Dear Roadrunners,

To ensure you have access to all the technology resources you will need in the weeks to come, University Technology Solutions would like to remind you of the following:

UTSA Devices

If you have any UTSA-owned laptops or tablets, please bring them to campus, plug them in and make sure they are logged into the network. This will automatically initiate the process of downloading and installing important updates. Because this process may take up to a few hours, please complete these steps as early in the workday as possible. These measures will help ensure that your UTSA-owned devices function appropriately in the event you need to work remotely.

Please get in the habit of taking your UTSA-owned laptops and tablets, as well as associated chargers, home with you.

Duo Multifactor Authentication
If you have not registered your mobile device with Duo Multifactor authentication, please do so now by visiting https://passphrase.utsa.edu and selecting “Begin Setup” in the center panel. If you have registered in the past but have since purchased a new mobile device, please email techcafe@utsa.edu to have your previous device unregistered. You will then be able to register your new device.

Technology Resources

University Technology Services has a suite of tools available to you to facilitate communicating and working with others virtually. See the new technology resources page on UTSA’s coronavirus site for complete information on tools to meet and share documentation, access UTSA’s network, make off-campus calls using your office extension and more.

Increased Internet Usage and Slowdowns

If you are experiencing slower than usual internet connections at home, please keep in mind that internet service providers (AT&T, Spectrum, etc) are seeing an enormous increase in usage. Not only are more people working from home, but many k-12 students are completing schoolwork virtually and streaming video. This increased usage has resulted in a major slowdown. Please note that it may be necessary to save work locally to your computer and upload it during slower usage periods while service providers work through the increased need for wired and wireless connections.

To determine whether you are experiencing slow home internet, you can test your connection speed at https://www.speedtest.net/.

University Technology Solutions is here for you. Please reach out to us at techcafe@utsa.edu for any assistance you may need.

Thank you,
