Purpose of Award
This award is to recognize, encourage and reward those tenured, tenure-track, and fixed-term track faculty who are exemplary in their commitment to service within the university whose service has had major impact on the opportunities, lives and future of UTSA undergraduate or graduate students, UTSA faculty, and/or UTSA by providing leadership in critical areas such as student, department, college and university committee service; creating new student or faculty programs and opportunities; contributing to policy and planning initiatives; and/or development of UTSA’s partner relationships.
Eligibility
Faculty nominated must have taught at least four consecutive long semesters (Fall-Spring) at UTSA. The awards are based on performance for the calendar year of the award. Priority will be given to candidates who have not previously won the award. Previous recipients of the President’s Distinguished Achievement Award for University Service will be eligible for nomination after seven years.
Criteria
The selection committee will consider the following criteria in selecting winners:
- Significance of service (in terms of frequency, amount, scope)
- Impact of service to the university, its mission, and/or our relationships with our stakeholders
Nomination Materials
A selection committee composed of faculty will review nomination packets. The nomination packet for this award will consist of only the following, assembled into a single PDF file in the order indicated:
- Complete award nomination form
- Recent letter of support/nomination from a peer colleague, department chair, or college leader
- Two recent letters of support from colleagues at the level of the service
- Self-statement of service to UTSA (not to exceed 2 pages). The statement should speak to
- The nature and quality of service to the university
- Impact on the students, faculty, and/or overall university
- CV of nominee
No additional materials should be submitted.
Each dean’s office should upload completed nomination packets by the deadline.
Previous recipients of the President’s Distinguished Achievement Award for Excellence in University Service are ineligible for nomination for this award.
Each college may submit a maximum number of three nominees (1 Tenured, 1 Tenure-Track, 1 Fixed-Term Track).
