UTSA Today Checklist

Impactful, well-written articles and strategic messaging are critical to effectively advance the UTSA brand.

Use this checklist to prepare news announcements for UTSA Today.

Content

  • Have you clearly shown how your topic supports UTSA’s climb toward its strategic destinations: becoming a model for student success, a great public research enterprise, and an exemplar for strategic growth and innovative excellence? If the story doesn’t support and explicitly include at least one of these three strategic messages, it is not likely to run in the top sections of UTSA Today.
  • Is your story accurate?
  • Have others with an interest in the article been given the chance to review it?
  • Have you thoroughly covered the topic and presented it in an interesting, readable style?
  • Do your paragraphs flow naturally from one to the next with good transitions?
  • Have you used data, statistics and quotes within the story where possible? This information must be sourced.
  • Have you provided each source’s complete name and title upon first reference? Have you used their last name thereafter?
  • Is your headline six to 10 words, conveying why the news is important?

Images

  • Your story requires two images, with captions, to accompany it on UTSA Today: 780px wide by 350px tall (landscape) and 680px wide by 560px tall. The resolutions on these images should be set at 72.

Are all boxes checked? Then send the story to news@utsa.edu.
