Meet a Geek: Diana Amis

December 18, 2015

We at OIT were curious about how well we really knew our colleagues.  In this blog post series, we'll interview the many faces of OIT to get a better understanding of the people who work with technology at UTSA.

So without further ado let's meet Diana Amis, Instructional Development Specialist for Online Learning

1 Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I'm an Instructional Development Specialist for the Office of Online Learning. I've been working for UTSA for 16 years as well as have both my BA and MA degrees from here. I moved here from the Big Bend area where I lived in a few little towns such as Marfa, Alpine, and Terlingua. I am happily married; we have three grown boys, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and 1 bird.

2. What attracted you to this job?

Actually it was the kind of the other way around, the people I work with thought I would be good at this and so they asked me to apply for this position. I think that is why I have stayed with UTSA for this many years. I love the people I work with and the work that I do. I love helping faculty!

3. What would you like to learn and why?

Wow! This one is tough. I'm always learning something new so it keeps me going and interested. Maybe to learn how to speak Spanish better than my poor meager basic skills.

4. What is your favorite candy bar?

Anything with white chocolate? I love white chocolate KitKats!

5. What special talents do you have?

Patience and Organization. I have a lots of patience and everyone says that I'm always so organized, which helps a lot with my work.

 6. Star Wars or Star Trek

Forever and Always a Trekkie! Live Long and Prosper!

7. Do you have any hobbies that you would like to share with us?

I love to paint miniature figurines like the ones used in tabletop RPGs like Dungeons and Dragons.

8. If you could travel anywhere in the world where would it be

Greece. I have always wanted to go to Greece and see all the temples that I read about in Greek Mythology.

9. What is your all-time favorite comedy movie?

I'm not sure but if the Minions movie counts then I'm good. I'm not really into comedies, I'm more of a Sci-Fi and mystery fan myself.

10. What favorite food puts you in a good mood?

Cookies, I think. Nice warm, just out of the oven cookies.

Thank you Diana, for your honesty and sincerity, it was a fun way to get to know you!  We encourage our readers to try it!
