We at OIT were curious about how well we really knew our colleagues.  In this blog post series, we'll interview the many faces of OIT to get a better understanding of the people who work with technology at UTSA

So now let's meet Ashlee Vasquez, net tech/support specialist II.

Full name/nickname(s)...

Ashlee Vasquez

Job title...

Network Technician/Support Specialist II – Team Lead

On a typical day on the job, I...

Turn off 5 alarms, finally roll out of bed and get myself and my two kids dressed. I drive my daughter to her school, son to daycare, then head to work. During my work day I review a variety of tickets and distribute the work through my team, also while reviewing for quality and improvements. I also consistently monitor our ACD (Automatic Call Distributor) system to ensure we have the proper amount of phone agents to meet our set goals for answering speeds, talk time, abandonment rates. In a typical day it’s common for me to be answering technical, procedural, and life advice questions from my team. Once my work day is over, I get to pick up my kids which is one of my favorite parts of my day! We sing along in the car as we fight through traffic. Once we get home, we spend time together, make dinner, give baths, put the kids to bed. After the kids are asleep, I get the rare “me” time which I spend with my husband either watching anime, playing games, or recording videos. Then sleep and wake up to do it all over again!

My family consists of...

My husband, my five year old daughter, and going on three year old son.

My kids are….

Balls of energy, big personalities, and full of love. They are the reason for everything I do and I am so thankful for them every single day.

Pets and/or other varmints...

I have a Basset Hound named Lily and a cat named Kitty. I’m in the process of getting Black Roughneck Monitor. (If you do not know what a monitor is, it’s the lizard from Rescuers Down Under)

Time at UTSA (including school and work)...

I am a full time employee at UTSA. I am currently going to school for my Bachelor’s in Business Administration in Information Systems.

The best thing I ever won in a contest was …

An Ipad in a radio voting competition. If you have met me, you can say you have met the 2nd coolest person in San Antonio (very much a lie by the way, much cooler people out there…)

My prized possession ….

Pictures. I love going back to look at old pictures, as each picture tells a story of a memory. I am the mom that always is snapping pictures of every experience. Unlike others that may look once in a while, I look back quite frequently as they truly make me happy. Sometimes the thought of hiring a  professional photographer to just come around and candidly capture memories comes to mind, but in reality that is not reasonable.

No one would recognize if they saw me...

In Jeans…seriously though if I am wearing Jean it is like everything is disoriented for everyone around me. I will get a question from everyone who knows me.

Special Talent/Stupid Human Trick…..

I would not consider myself having any special talents. I have a pretty impressive typing speed though!

In my spare time I like to...

Spend time with my family, dance, play video games, do arts and crafts, and make videos.

Favorite pieces of clothing...

Tights, I love how you can completely transform something simple with a set of nicely designed tights.

Weirdest thing I admit to wearing….

A garbage bag I designed into a dress for a photoshoot.

Favorite food and/or restaurant...

Japanese and Thai Food, however…I just love food!

Star Wars or Star Trek?

Star Wars

Favorite TV show...

Too many to list, but that I really enjoy are Gotham, Cutthroat Kitchen, How to Get Away With Murder, Heroes, and Impractical Jokers.

Favorite movie...

Star Wars

Favorite candy bar...

It would have to be a tie between Troblerone and Caramello, both which I very rarely eat.

Favorite ice cream flavor...

Cookies and Cream

Favorite cereal...

Fruit Loops

Favorite cake…

Yellow Cake with strawberries on top

Favorite place to visit or vacation...

I have only been there once, but my favorite place I’ve ever traveled before was Belize. I’d love to go back.

I'm currently listening to...

Odesza

In the past year, I...

I have completed several accomplishments I sought to achieve. I became ITIL Foundations Certified and also completed my Introduction To Management Supervisory Series at UTSA. The past year has been a rollercoaster, I have been through trials I thought I would never have to face in my life and had to find strength to fight through obstacles. This allowed me to find positivity and strength to continue to grow in all aspects of my life.  Challenges allow me to see what I am truly capable of accomplishing.

In the coming year, I...

Will continue on the path of completing my Bachelor’s degree while finding time to manage the rest of my life without becoming completely overwhelmed. Also, hopefully this year I will become a home owner for the first time! I would like to not only be on the path of accomplishing more professionally, but also assisting my team members in their paths to achieve their career goals.

Right now I am reading...

tickets, lots of tickets.
