UTSA's Assistant Vice Provost for Information Technology Vanessa Hammler Kenon, Ed.D. was an invited participant for a pre-conference workshop at this year's Annual Online Learning Consortium International Conference. The conference, which was recently renamed OLC Accelerate, was held from November 16-18 at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort Hotel in Orlando, Florida.

The invitation-only workshop for university and student leadership titled "Scaling Solutions to Higher Ed's Biggest Challenges," allowed participants to delve into challenges to equity and access that are prevalent in higher education across the U.S. These challenges are identified in a publication which will soon be released by the New Media Consortium (NMC), a community of experts in educational technology seeking to drive innovation across institutions of higher education.

Participants of the workshop were also given the opportunity to break into groups to discuss possible solutions to tackle these challenges, as well as ways of fostering buy-in from institutions nationwide to employ these solutions. The NMC in collaboration with the Online Learning Consortium (OLC) through the support of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation facilitated this all-day workshop.

Dr. Kenon serves as the Principal Investigator (PI) for the UTSA Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Integrated Planning and Advising for Student Success (iPASS) grant.
