The Office of Information Technology (OIT) Customer Relations, Communication, and Training (CRCT) team and Video Production Group (VPG) are collaborating to develop a marketing video to support the adoption of the UTSA Guide App.

The Education Advisory Board’s (EAB’s) Guide App, rebranded as UTSA Guide for our campus, is a student success tool that helps students navigate through college. It contains information relevant to their current classification and provides notifications to help them stay on track, information to explore majors, resources to support them such as labs, department offices, class schedules, and much more.

As part of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMFG) Integrated Planning and Advising for Student Success (iPASS) grant, OIT has worked in partnership with the Provost Office, Academic Advising, and Institutional Research to implement advising tools to support student success at UTSA. The OIT CRCT team has assisted in supporting the launch of the UTSA Guide app as well as DegreeWorks.

The video will be a marketing piece to assist in the spring launch of UTSA Guide to all undergraduate students. OIT has collaborated with the UTSA Guide marketing team to help support adoption by providing information materials, as well as outreaching to students.

Last summer, OIT partnered with several offices including Student Affairs, Enrollment Services, Institutional Research, the Student Center for Community Engagement and Inclusion, and the Provost Office through the UTSA Guide Marketing Committee to pilot the UTSA Guide App to incoming freshmen. During the freshman orientation pilot, 77% of students downloaded and installed the app, surpassing the average target goal of 50%. At the end of the summer, EAB reported that UTSA had the highest adoption rate of any institution to launch the app.

Each week hundreds of students attended information sessions including one on the UTSA Guide App. They were encouraged by their Orientation Leaders to download the app and visit the UTSA Guide App information table at the Orientation Resource fair. The resource fair tables were organized and led by the CRCT team with volunteer representatives from other OIT areas including Application Development and Support (ADS), StudentConnect, Business Operations, Telecom, and Infrastructure Services. OIT promoted the app and educated students and parents on the difference between the UTSA Guide App and the UTSA Mobile App. They also assisted students with downloading and installing UTSA Guide on their mobile devices and students received a UTSA t-shirt in exchange.

Look for more information on UTSA Guide throughout the spring semester as it is launched to the entire undergraduate student population.
