Sculpture and New Media

UTSA Sculpture and New Media
Sculpture: Marcus Clarke

Approachable to all levels of tech-y-ness, we will be creating sculptural light lanterns. Colored LEDs and light animation will be created through coding the lights with Arduino and coding assistance from AI chats. Students will also be able to design lantern projects digitally using Illustrator and a Cricut cutting machine, and learn to solder wires to LED strips. This is a great foundational course to introduce artists to simple tech and AI usage.

New Media: Braulio Gutierrez

Whether they're interested in graphic design, photography, animation, video or digital art, this class will equip students with the fundamental skills needed to bring their ideas to life. The Shape of Art to Come; Students will have the opportunity to explore mixed media techniques on non-traditional surfaces/shapes in a unique and conceptually contemporary way. This course strives to experiment with forms and space away from convention so as to enter a more intuitive zone when creating. The subject matter is open so long as the pieces are produced on non-traditional surfaces using pigments and drawing utensils that vary to the same degree as the substrates.

Printmaking: Humberto Saenz

This course offers students an introduction to traditional and contemporary printmaking processes in lithography. Lithography is a method of printing on stone or metal onto archival paper that captures the expressive quality of a drawing including line, texture, and shading. Students will work in a professional print lab atmosphere in the UTSA printing studio.
