Certifcation Matters

This program is presented in workshop format as a 13-hour program over nine weeks. In addition, students will complete one of the following certifications asynchronously:

  • HR Certification Institute - Associate Professional in Human Resources (aPHR) - 36 hours
  • HR Certification Institute - Professional in Human Resources (PHR) - 36 hours
  • Society of Human Resources - Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) - 40 hours

Certification track is dependent upon education and HR background. Take a quick survey to see which certification is right for you.

The course culminates with the presentation of a “Human Resource Professional Certificate” issued by UTSA in recognition of successful course completion. After completion, students will be prepared to sit for certification.

The UTSA Certified Human Resource Professional Training course is designed to provide comprehensive knowledge and certification opportunities for seasoned HR professionals and those new to the HR field.

01Are you an HR professional seeking certification?

A PayScale survey reveals that certified HR professionals earn, on average, 18% more than their non-certified peers. The Texas Workforce Commission forecasts a 22.12% growth in Human Resource Manager positions in the state by 2030.

High-level certifications are often required for HR professionals aiming for management roles, which is reflected by the median annual wage of $136,822 for HR Managers.

02Are you new to the HR field?

Becoming a certified Professional in Human Resources demonstrates that you fully understand the "functional areas" of a human resources department, including business management, talent planning, acquisition and employee and labor relations.

Texas ranks second in the nation for number of Human Resource Specialists employed with an median annual wage of $67,844. Human Resources positions are projected to grow 22.7% between 2020 and 2030 in Texas.

Meet the Instructor

Diana Garza UTSA

Dr. Diana Garza

Dr. Diana Garza is an accomplished professional in higher education with over 15 years of experience teaching Business Strategic Management, Organizational Behavior, Strategic Human Resource Management, Research, and Leadership courses at several universities. Dr. Garza has an extensive corporate background working for large San Antonio-based companies; she was also the Director of Program Development for a large global organization.

As the current Professional Development Director for San Antonio SHRM, she engages with community leaders and brings trending topics and presenters to monthly educational luncheons.

She received her Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Information Systems from The University of the Incarnate Word, a Master of Business Administration with a Concentration in E-Commerce, and a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas.
