Merit-Based Salary Increases

Colleagues,

In November, we announced the next steps in our multi-year strategic compensation plan to recognize and reward our Roadrunner workforce as we continue to make UTSA an even greater place to work.

A key strategy in our plan is a merit-based salary increase ranging from 1.80% to 2.10% to recognize the outstanding work of our benefits-eligible employees. As we previously shared, this builds upon last fiscal year’s increase of up to 4% that went into effect on Jan. 1, 2022. As a result, our faculty and staff will have received permanent salary increases of up to 6.1% overall, the largest historical merit increase at UTSA over a twelve-month period.

As a new compensation strategy this year, benefits-eligible staff will also be awarded up to 32 hours of paid time off in the form of administrative leave.

More information on merit percentages, paid time off amounts, performance ratings and eligibility criteria is now available on the People Excellence website. In January, individuals who are eligible for merit will receive a letter from People Excellence outlining their total merit increase. If you are a benefits-eligible staff member, this letter will also include details of your paid time off award. As a reminder, merit increases and paid time off amounts are based on 2021-2022 performance evaluation ratings and will differ from person to person.

This year’s merit increases will go into effect Jan. 1, 2023 and will be reflected in Feb. 1, 2023 paychecks for those on monthly payroll. Employees on semi-monthly payroll will see the increase on Jan. 23, 2023 paychecks.

As you know, compensation is a key area of focus in our ongoing response to the results of our first faculty and staff Campus Climate survey. Our commitment to invest in our faculty and staff continues to be a top priority, and we are glad to be able to recognize our employees.

We appreciate your dedication to UTSA and we thank you for your support of our students.

Sincerely,
