Update on the search for SVP Research and Economic Development

Dear Faculty and Staff,

We are writing to update you on the status of the search for the next Senior Vice President for Research and Economic Development. After thoughtful consideration, we’ve elected to pause the search and re-commence later this year (or early next).

This hire is critically important to UTSA, and this interim period will be used to further support our Research, Economic Development, and Knowledge Enterprise (REDKE) as we continue to work through the current legislative session and its implications on our knowledge enterprise.

Jaclyn Shaw, Associate Vice President for Strategic Research Initiatives, has agreed to continue in her role as Interim Vice President for Research and Economic Development. We continue to be grateful for her leadership and support of our research partners, colleges, faculty and staff, and graduate and undergraduate students involved in research.

Many of our colleagues have played a key role in this process, and we are deeply grateful for their time and commitment. We’d like to thank our search advisory committee for their guidance, for evaluating numerous candidates, and for shepherding the process. We are also grateful for the staff in Academic Affairs, especially Angela Griffith, Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Operations and Strategic Initiatives, for managing schedules and logistics to ensure all visits ran smoothly. Lastly, we’re grateful for our external community partners—who shared their time and insights to fully engage in the process—and our external search firm, Isaacson Miller.

As always, we welcome your feedback and look forward to filling this important leadership role to elevate our knowledge enterprise to the next level. We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.

Thank you for your ongoing support and for all you do for UTSA.

With appreciation,

Taylor Eighmy, President

Kimberly Andrews Espy, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs
