Our future, together: Launching our strategic planning initiative

March 17, 2026

Dear Colleagues,

On September 1, 2025, we marked a defining moment in our history as UT San Antonio, uniting our academic and health enterprises to form the third-largest research university in Texas. As I’ve stated many times, that milestone was more than an institutional achievement — it was an inflection point toward greatness.

Today, I am pleased to announce the next milestone in our trajectory toward becoming a nationally preeminent public research university: the launch of our new Strategic Planning Initiative. This ten-year plan will serve as the north star that guides our collective efforts toward a bright, ambitious and forward-looking future to position UT San Antonio as a world-class university for San Antonio, the state of Texas, the nation and the world.

Grounded in our mission to make lives better by advancing excellence in education, research and discovery, health, public service and community engagement, this initiative will define the vision, strategic destinations and measurable outcomes that will shape our next decade of impact. UT San Antonio is uniquely positioned to unite learning, research, health and community impact in ways that accelerate social mobility and advance generational progress, and we embrace this responsibility with purpose and commitment.

Together, through this collaborative process, we will build the foundation for our future, maximizing conditions where access and excellence thrive to create even more opportunities of success for all those we serve. Also, I want to emphasize that our success will not be defined by a document, but rather by how we bring this plan to life through our everyday work. Each of you – whether your work is in the classroom, in our clinics, in the labs, or supporting the daily operations that make our missions possible – plays an essential role in shaping the future of our great institution.

To that end, I invite you to join me and members of our leadership team for a university-wide town hall from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, at the Holly Auditorium on the health campus. During this time together, we will share an overview of our vision, mission, anticipated destinations, and the phased process that will guide our work over the coming year. We will also share how faculty and staff engagement will inform and strengthen every stage of this initiative.

Whether you attend in person or watch via livestream, I highly encourage you to be part of this important conversation as we continue building our future together. RSVP for the town hall.

Thank you, as always, for your dedication to UT San Antonio. The path ahead is ambitious, and together we will continue expanding our impact and making lives better today and for generations to come.

With appreciation,

Taylor Eighmy, PhD
President, UT San Antonio
